| Pat S basking in the pain, I mean glory, of a Fran PR |
Pat S is the gym workhorse, accepting whatever training comes his way and doing it whole-heartedly and with a smile, but last week was the first time I saw him grumpy and it was in the face of 2 consecutive Personal Records(PRs)!
He flew through Fran and Jackie with almost a minute improvement in both. It was fantastic to watch, even if it didn't feel too fantastic once it was over.
Pat (along with a few others) has been working through the competitor program these past few weeks, which has meant a cluster of athletes doing quite a lot of different stuff to the main WODs. It's been fun, it's been unexpected, but what's been most interesting is how humbling it's been for us all.
Even though the weights we're moving are getting bigger, the way we're moving them is getting better, and our times are getting faster, well, to put it bluntly, we feel worse. It's been harder, it's been frustrating, we've felt sicker after Fran than we ever have before. We're putting ourselves to the test again revisiting the early stages like a brand new CrossFitter, when everday is a challenge like none you've felt before.
It's been awesome watching our athletes (competitors or not) get better (David J knocking out his first muscle ups on Saturday). Every day is a triumph when you're learning something new, trying harder than you thought you could, doing that one rep more, keeping that stellar form, and cheering on the person next to you.
It is this chemistry of the unfamiliar and the practiced, community support and individual ardor, dedication, curiosity, and the freeing feeling of accomplishment that makes this gym so special.
Keep it up Pat! Keep it up all you kickass CrossFit SAV athletes!
