It marks the Mexican defeat of French forces at the Battle of Puebla. The Mexicans were seriously outnumbered (4,000 to 8,000) and the French army was much better equipped and largely undefeated at that time, so it was an especially bid deal to win. The Battle of Puebla also marks the last time the Americas were invaded by a European military force.
